Spolana,
the only PVC and caprolactam manufacturer in Czechia, has been recently awarded
the global Responsible Care recertification for its responsible chemistry
business for the tenth time. The certificate is granted by the Association of
Chemical Industry of the Czech Republic. Responsible Care is an ethical
standard and commitment undertaken to create trust in the industry that is crucial
for enhancing living standards and quality of life. The Association awards the
certificate for the results attained when performing the intentions and
objectives targeting improved health, environmental protection, and safety of
all activities related to the chemistry business.
Spolana has again earned the
global Responsible Care certificate. Commenting on the recertification, Miroslav Falta, Spolana executive director,
said: “Environmental
protection and a responsible approach are among our top priorities. We joined
the programme as early as in 1994. We
are delighted that we have again done well and defended the commitments arising
from the programme’s performance. In addition, we discuss the respective
compliance reports with the representatives of specialist organisations and
regional self-governments every year.”
More than 50 countries take
part in the programme regularly. It aims to constantly increase the protection
of the population’s health and the environment in connection with the
production, distribution, and use of chemicals. It also evaluates the readiness
for emergencies and information openness. The certificate grants the right to
use the Responsible Care logo. Spolana received this authorisation until 2027.
About Responsible Care
Responsible Care® is a voluntary initiative
of the global chemical industry focused on health, safety, and the environment.
It aims to support constant performance improvements. Responsible Care is an
ethical standard and commitment adopted to create trust in the industry that is
crucial for enhancing living standards and quality of life. It has gradually
become a contribution towards sustainable development.
The fundamental Responsible
Care principles
were defined in Canada in 1985. The Association of Chemical Industry of the
Czech Republic (SCHP ČR) joined the programme in 1994. Currently, 84 SCHP
Czech Republic companies and collective members of the Association of Chemical
Traders and Distributors of the Czech Republic (SCHOD), Czech Association of
Cleaning Stations (CACS), and the Association of Manufacturers of Coating
Compositions (AVNH) ascribe to performing the Responsible Care principles in
the Czech Republic. On 21 August 2014, the Association acceded to the Responsible
Care Global Charter updated by the International Council of Chemical
Associations (ICCA) to the current conditions. Through Responsible Care, which
is currently supported by 65 national associations and more than 600 global
businesses, the chemical industry contributes to meeting the environmental
protection principles set out in the UN Global Compact.
