Releasing fish into the Elbe
has long been a popular event with the pupils of the local primary schools.
Besides the actual fish stocking, schoolchildren are offered various side
events where they learn about water and life in the river in a playful way. “We
are happy we could join this event. The children were looking forward to it, as
they always enjoy hands-on lessons. It is a fantastic opportunity for all
pupils to learn more about life in the rivers and how they can help protect the
environment,” said a Zuzana
Synáková, teacher in the fourth grade at a primary school in Kostelec nad Labem.
"We stocked 300 kg of mostly carp fish in the
river, among which there were also several pieces of tench, or even a beautiful
american siven, which also belongs to the flowing water of the Elbe
River," added Luboš Zimmel, Head of the
fishing club in Neratovice, to the release of fish who participated in the
event on behalf of the Czech Anglers Union.
“We are pleased that we can regularly combine fish
stocking in the Elbe and hands-on experience for the local schoolchildren. The
children are keen on participating in such events, and we look forward to
harvesting honey at the turn of May and June. The children will again
traditionally help us with it,” said Piotr Kearney, Executive Director of Spolana.
Spolana is seeking to develop
the environment both through regular fish stocking in the Elbe and by
supporting the nesting of the critically endangered peregrine falcons that
regularly nest on one of the chimneys on its production site. And beekeeping
has already celebrated its fifth anniversary here. Bees are kept in beehives
placed on the old chocolate and saccharine production premises. The exquisite
quality of the extracted honey has been confirmed by the tests of the
accredited laboratory of the Czech Institute of Bee Research.
SPOLANA s.r.o. is one of the largest chemical
manufacturing companies in the Czech Republic. The only manufacturer of PVC and
caprolactam also produces ammonium sulphate and sulphuric acid. It currently
